WE HELP RURAL ECONOMIC GROW
DESA was founded by Anna, Ooi, Ames, and Sean with the hope of creating another “Taobao Village” to help develop the rural areas in Malaysia during their fateful encounter in Alibaba’s Netpreneur program.
Though initially, DESA was not well-received by the public due to skepticism; yet at this moment DESA is being supported by many parties from the private and government sector, this includes Alibaba, MDEC, Lazada and many more thanks to the founders’ will and determination.
Bentong, Pahang is full of resources and a variety of local products, including durian, ginger, soy sauce, rice and many more. Most of the people, especially the Orang Asli in the rural area make their living by selling these products that they produce themselves organically. The living condition of the Orang Asli is poor and they have limited access to common amenities like schools, hospitals, roads, and transportation. These are the reason why Bentong, Pahang is DESA’s current focus.

In Desa, we pay tribute to those who are working hard and struggling but being forgotten. The Orang Asli have not been given fair treatment and equal opportunity over the years. Now, we are here to bridge the gap to help the forgotten ones and that is the only reason for our existence.
The Orang Asli have the advantage of natural resources and skills to produce natural goods from their villages yet do not have the necessary skills to bring their product to the mass market. We complement the Orang Asli by combining and integrating the necessary resources from multiple entities and make it easier for them to have fair and equal access to necessary resources.
Once the basic needs for Orang Asli are fulfilled, the next step would be laying the groundwork for the future generation. The ultimate goal would be to provide the future generation of Orang Asli with an equal opportunity just as urban children have. That will be the future we love to see.
